Patient Profile: 30-year old woman with 12 month onset of severe gingival bleeding when brushing and eating. After a complete medical work up no significant findings. Oral hygiene found to be good with minimal plaque and recall appointments up to date. No clinical improvement of bleeding on probing found after regular scaling and root planing appts.
Treatment Protocol: Treated areas with Periowave.
Result: Within 1 week there was no evidence of BOP. 6-week follow-up showed a pocket reduction from 7mm to 3mm.

Patient Profile: 52-year-old East Indian female with severe Periodontitis.
Treatment Protocol: Scaling and root planing with local anesthesia was used to treat 43 and 42, with adjunctive treatment with Periowave following the scaling.
Result: The patient was out of the country after treatment for several months, but did return for a 12-week follow-up visit, at which time the pocket probing depth was reduced to 3 mm with no signs of inflammation.

Entry #3 - Mabel Lo, RDH

Patient Profile: 49-year old Caucasian female with periodontal disease.
Treatment Protocol: Recommended initial treatment consisted of SRP with local anaesthetic in conjunction with Periowave™ treatment, as well as systemic antibiotic therapy. Immediately following the complete examination, ultrasonic and hand scaling were performed on the mandibular teeth, followed by Periowave™.
Result: Six weeks later the patient returned for periodontal reassessment. Full-mouth probing was performed, which detected no mobility on 27, and pocket depths had reduced significantly from 7-10 mm to 4-5 mm. No mobility was found on the rest of the maxillary teeth.
